Super 3d Noah's Ark
« on: 19/Jul/2016 11:59:41 AM »
Does anyone have the original SNES version of this game (the one where you need to plug a regular SNES game on top of it)? Have you been able to get it to work on the Retrode? I've tried a couple times but couldn't get it to plug in. I haven't investigated why yet, I was just curious if anyone else had tried it.

Pass through cartridges will not work in the Retrode as the system only reads the first device.

This one might, actually. I think I remember that Noah's Ark is a non-licensed title, and as such it has to use an original cart's CIC (authentication chip) and its own ROM. If so, that combination would be unproblematic.

You'll still have to figure out the mechanics of inserting the cart though. The Retrode's bare board is four screws away.

Just wanted to give an update. I took the case off the retrode and was able to successfully dump the ROM. Haven't played it too much yet, but when I started the game in an emulator it gave a bad checksum error but seemed to still play.

For the record, the ROM included in the version sold on Steam also gives a bad checksum error and I'm pretty sure that's intentional because this is what ucon64 has to say about it:

Checksum: Bad, 0xbf8b (calculated) != 0x0000 (internal)
Inverse checksum: Bad, 0x4074 (calculated) != 0x0000 (internal)

(It looks like they just didn't bother to calculate a checksum while mastering, since it wasn't necessary to get the thing to boot in a real SNES.)
