General Discussion / New firmware beta: v0.19 beta
« on: 11/May/2016 06:53:37 PM »
Dear all,

Wannado has done it again: A new firmware beta is out (0.19 beta) and ready for you to test. Please find it (and updating instructions) in the usual place.

If you've had issues using the Retrode under Android, accessing GB savegames, or even losing GB save data, then you should definitely give this update a try.

And now let's all thank Wannado who's been doing a tremendous job maintaining the firmware since my semi-departure.

Support / Help your fellow users by consolidating the FAQ
« on: 06/Dec/2013 10:17:38 AM »
Dear all,

In the recent year or two, there has been a bunch of recurring support issues which have been solved on the forums but not yet made their way into the Troubleshooting section on the homepage. Now my time is rarer than ever (I've just become a university professor which comes with an overwhelming lot of work), but you too can do a great service to your fellow Retrode users by helping me collect problems and their fixes from the forums in here. Just reply to this thread with a post like this:

Problem: N64 or GBA games don't play correctly.

1. Check the voltage selector on the Retrode mainboard (underneath SNES slot). For N64 and GBA, it needs to be set to 3.3V (5V otherwise). [link to forum thread, manual]
2. Maybe the Retrode doesn't detect the right ROM size. Hit HWB button and refresh directory listing, or use config settings to force bigger sizes. [link to forum thread(s), link to config doc on Retrode homepage]

This will make it much easier for me to compile the solutions for the troubleshooting page, linking back to the forum threads where the issues are discussed in more detail. Please keep other types of discussion at a minimum in here.

Thank you!

Support / SNES Controller issues? Update your firmware.
« on: 20/Mar/2012 02:28:36 PM »
The latest firmware contains an important fix for the SNES controller part. If you are experiencing problems, make sure to find it here, and install it according to instructions. Mac users, here are instructions for firmware update for you.

Please let us know if this solves your controller troubles. (On a different note, I can't seem to get my mouse to work at the moment. Will be fixed in a future update.)

Just curious if there are any attendants out there :)

General Discussion / C64 / Amiga / VCS2600 Joysticks
« on: 13/Feb/2012 07:13:46 PM »

I just recalled that C64, Amiga and Atari 2600 use pretty much the same pinout for their digital joysticks as the Sega devices, so they should in principle be supported by the Retrode 2. Anyone care to give it a try? (Analogue controllers (joysticks, paddles, etc) will definitely not work because the Retrode's input stage is purely digital.)

General Discussion / Anyone ever used the Retrode on a PHONE?
« on: 04/Jan/2012 08:36:42 AM »

It just came to me that we still don't have any evidence of a Retrode running on the OTG port of a smartphone. Has anyone ever tried that? I think that would be fairly neat.

General Discussion / Anyone received theirs yet?

Dear all,

Roughly 130 brand-new Retrodes went out to their new owners yesterday - some (overseas) will certainly take a bit longer, but others might already arrive today or tomorrow, depending on how far you are from Germany. So let us know when your Retrode arrives, and how you like it!
